Cara Delevingne talks ‘Planet Sex’ at Cannes.

British model and actress Cara Delevingne made her on-screen debut in her upcoming docu-series Planet Sex and says she realized she was more prudish than she thought.

Speaking to international television market Mipcom in Cannes on Tuesday, the 30-year-old said the Fremantle-produced show for Hulu and the BBC has taken her in directions she never imagined as she offered to share her personal journey with the Telling about sexuality in a series.

“I went into the masturbation seminar thinking it was going to be a classroom and I had a notepad, and instead it was a pink leather gym mat on the floor with six people saying, ‘Well, take off your underwear. That’s the lube,’” Delevingne explained. “I didn’t know I was a prude. I guess I’m a pretty hip, young, cool, down girl, but I was like, ‘Sorry, huh? Sorry, no, absolutely not, I won’t do that.’ But I kind of did everything I wanted to do.”

There wasn’t a moment when “she had reservations,” Delevingne said. “I was more like, ‘What are we going to do today?’ Because every day was completely different. I’m used to being a chameleon, but that was absurd. One day you’re having your blood drawn during orgasm, the next day you’re going to a porn shop. I was like, ‘Right, okay, screw my head back on.’”

Delevingne is in Cannes to promote the show, which has already sold in 80 markets around the world ahead of its Nov. 29 premiere on Hulu.

Fremantle UK boss Simon Andreae explained that the underlying theory for Planet Sex was that “Cara explored one of these big questions in every episode [about sexuality]ask it at the top, explore labs, different cultures, different individuals, your own mind and body, and come out the other end with a conclusion.”

But Andreae – who first developed the concept about five years ago and eventually connected Cara through her US agency WME – wanted to avoid the “classic Hollywood fencing because you don’t want to offend anyone” and finally arrive at a real conclusion, which he said was that “sexual orientation is finalized at birth”.
