Canada’s faith leaders lashed out at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after he invoked the “Emergencies Act” earlier this week to quell an ongoing “Liberty Convoy” protest.
The Liberal Coalition of Canada (LCC), a Christian group that works to cover “freedom disruption in Canada” has published a open letter to Trudeau to urge him to abandon pandemic duties and “restore the constitutional liberties of the people.”
“Too many grounds have been acknowledged for this immoral agenda. All of our institutions fell into its hands. Our schools, our law firms and courts, universities, even many churches. A regime and agenda based on lies is being coerced to maintain its power,” LCC President Father Michael Thiessen, one of the leading signatories of the letter, told The Daily Wire in a statement.
“We feel that the man of God has the moral and ethical responsibility of Christians when speaking as socio-spiritual commentators (in short – the prophecy) to our leaders and society about the secular dictatorship that holds our nation,” he said.
The letter defends protesters who have demonstrated in Ottawa outside Parliament in recent weeks against the ongoing pandemic and vaccine.
The leader wrote:
In recent weeks, the hugely popular truckload of Christians (including pastors), has captured the imaginations not only of this nation but of other nations of the world, for see what we’ve been expressing and debating for months is truly representative of these concerns. of millions of ordinary Canadians who value peace, individual responsibility and freedom.
The protest in Ottawa has provided your government with a great opportunity to meet and speak to ordinary Canadians legally and peacefully, demanding the restoration of their constitutional rights.
However, in the face of their singing, praying, dancing, flossing, splendid castles, constitutional speeches, and expressions of patriotism for the country, your government has not only By refusing to meet these citizens to hear their concerns, you have insulted, denigrated and lied about them, further dividing a wounded and broken nation.
Trudeau said he called the action a “last resort” to break up the trucker protests.
The cleric’s letter continued:
We, therefore, as Christian pastors, condemn in the strongest possible terms your unprecedented invocation of the Emergency Rights Act (1988) for the purpose of bringing to power the state. insurmountable water to shoulder moderate citizens – “men, women and children” – who have been deprived of their basic freedoms for two years and in many cases, who have lost everything due to your government mandate. BILLION
here is not a national emergency and calling on one person to quell peaceful dissent is an act of totalitarian repression that demonstrates weakness, not strength. These tyrannical actions are subjecting this government and people to God’s judgment and we are deeply concerned that you do not appreciate the importance of God’s wrath on a rebellious and lawless nation.
We beg you to step back from the brink, restore the constitutional liberties of the people, respect the God-given rights of our citizens, and above all, humble yourself and kneel before God. Christ King lest you perish on the way. We call you to repent of your sins of pride, rebellion against God, and false witness.
You have not shown brotherly care and love for these honest hard workers who have peacefully tried to bring your attention to their very serious concerns.
