Can Sporting KC turn their luck around in their match against LAFC?

On April 17th, Sporting Kansas City will be facing Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) at the Banc of California Stadium. The MLS season only started at the end of February, but these first few weeks have already given us some idea of how each team is shaping up.

Sporting KC is one of the teams whose season hasn’t gotten off to the best start. They’re currently sitting at 12th on the table with one win and three losses. Obviously, it’s too early in the season to write any team off, even if their early performance hasn’t been very inspiring.

Would it be worth your time to bet on Sporting KC in their upcoming match against LAFC? Beating one of the top teams in the league could inspire Sporting KC and carry them through several games, but as even elite coaches like Jurgen Klopp know, facing off against top teams is always a challenge. The odds on whether or not they can do it might change after their matches against Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Nashville SC, but we’ll have to wait and see.

If you’re planning on betting on this, or any other MLS match, having a good sportsbook lets you bet with security. Finding a good sportsbook is a lot easier if you have a sports betting guide to rely on. A guide as found on World Sports Network is the best place to find links to legitimate sportsbooks and to see what kind of bonuses they each offer. This guide also provides odds, predictions and recaps of past matches, so that you can get a full picture of how the team you’re planning to bet on is doing.

Now, let’s take a quick look into both teams’ seasons so far to get a better idea if it’ll be possible for Sporting KC to turn their luck around when they face off against LAFC.

Sporting KC’s season so far

Sporting KC started the season off with a 3-1 loss to Atlanta United. Their win the next week against Houston Dynamo looked like it had saved them from starting the season off badly. Unfortunately, their next two matches, against Colorado Rapids and Chicago Fire FC, ended badly for Kansas City. They now have a goal differential of -5, having only scored three goals in four games.

The match against Houston shows where Kansas City’s talents lie. They have a strong attacking offense and midfield. Defensive midfielder Rémi Walter, responsible for the winning goal, and right winger Johnny Russell are looking particularly good this year. What they need to work on is finishing. There’s no point in racing the ball down the field, passing beautifully, and setting up a shot on goal if they’re either not going to take the shot or send it wide.

It’s defensively where Sporting KC really need to up their game. Even if their offensive line were able to score consistently, it wouldn’t matter if the defenders aren’t able to keep their opponents from getting through. It’s hard to point to one player or position that is causing the issue, it seems more like the team just needs to spend a bit more time working on playing as a team and finding their rhythm.

LAFC’s season so far

It’s been a great season so far for LAFC. They’re currently number one in the league and six places above their hometown rivals, LA Galaxy. They’ve won three of their four matches and drawn one, the same as number two team Real Salt Lake. Where LAFC really pull ahead is in the goal differential. They’ve scored nine goals in those four games and only conceded two. That’s miles above every other team in the league besides Austin FC.

A goal differential like that shows us that everyone on the team is doing their job — they’re either scoring goals or not letting them into the net. Their two losses in the preseason games show us that despite this red-hot start, the team isn’t invincible.

One thing that Sporting KC will have to be aware of is that LAFC doesn’t seem to tire out. Their players are well conditioned and keep shooting and scoring until that final whistle blows.

Upsets are one of the most exciting parts of any sport. Since soccer is a relatively low scoring game, it’s always possible for an underdog to slip that game deciding goal past their opponent’s goalie. Even though Sporting KC doesn’t seem like they have a chance against LAFC, they have the talent on their bench to secure this win.
