Can launch a double-headed pitching monster against the Cardinals

The New York Mets will have Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer pitching in the same game.

The New York Mets already had a certified ace Jacob deGrom on the roster, but this winter the team decided to add another to create a two-headed monster. Before the MLB was locked down, the Mets contracted former divisional rival Max Scherzer to create an all-star pitching rotation.

It’s unlikely that both deGrom and Scherzer will feature in the same regular-season game, but both will be getting ready for spring training with St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, March 27.

For Mets fans in the New York area who want to watch that game, it will be at 1:10 p.m. ET.

Scherzer was the top freelance agent on the open market this past winter. The Mets happened to win sweepstakes when they signed him to a three-year, $130 million deal. Scherzer is nearing the end of the 2021 season, where he amassed a league-best 2.46 ERA and 0.864 WHIP in 30 games between the Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

deGrom proved when he was fit that he was one of the best starting pitchers in the entire tournament. Last season, deGrom suffered a number of injuries before having to leave the game because of an elbow injury. Across 15 starts, deGrom posted an ERA of 1.08, a WHIP of 0.554, and 146 attacks in 92.0 runs.

The Mets are hoping that having deGrom and Scherzer on their rotation will lead to a World Series spot. Fans can get a preview of what the duo can do on Sunday. Can launch a double-headed pitching monster against the Cardinals
