Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended by the NFL for at least the 2022 season for betting on the NFL game, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Ridley was off the team for much of the 2021 NFL season, but it was discovered that over a five-day period in November was betting on NFL games while not on the team.
The Falcons widely tweeted an amusing message yesterday ahead of the news:
The Falcons’ wide receiver claims he’s “stepping away from football” to focus on his mental health after being ruled out for the Falcons 19-13 loss to the Panthers on October 31.
According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, Ridley placed bets on games featuring the Falcons, but the games weren’t harmed in any way.
The former Alabama production posted 248 receptions and 3,342 yards in 49 games over four seasons after being drafted in the first round by the Falcons in 2018.
