Marquette appears on track for an NCAA Tournament spot in head coach Shaka Smart’s first season and will look to build some momentum towards the Big East and ‘Big Dance’ Tournaments with a win over Butler on Saturday afternoon at home.
The Bulldogs fell to 13-16 during the season, but were able to knock Marquette out at home earlier this month. Can they make it a surprising season? Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:
Total: 137.5 (Over -110/Under -110)
At first over and over, I liked Butler at double digit spreads but the market didn’t allow it, so I leaned towards Marquette at -8.5. The Bulldogs have struggled with a pressurized defense with the ball largely playing in a high-tempo style, which is what Marquette thrives on. (see: Butler’s loss to St. John’s 91-57 last Friday).
Further, the situation is on the Golden Eagles after the team lost as a four-point top laner on Feb. 12. Marquette will want revenge and speed up against Butler, who is playing in 10th place in the country. Smart’s team plays at the 32nd fastest tempo and will be looking to speed up the LaVall Jordan club.
This can get ugly as Marquette has the schematic advantage to win by a margin on Saturday afternoon, making it comfortable for me to play this spread all the way up to -9.
LEAN: Marquette -8.5
