Justin Jefferson is looking forward to changes under Kevin O’Connell
New York Mets skipper Buck Showalter looked downright furious after Jeff McNeil was hit by a pitch Wednesday afternoon.
The New York Mets sluggers can’t stop getting hit by pitches, with the latest event coming in a showdown with the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Leading the fourth, batter Jeff McNeil was knocked down by Aaron Nola, giving the visitors a run.
Although New York extended their lead to 3-0, manager Buck Showalter was not at all happy. He’s tired of seeing his players get hit and his reaction told the whole story.
Buck Showalter was furious with the Phillies and Aaron Nola for beating Jeff McNeil
That was quite a look from Showalter, and it undoubtedly sent a message to the Phillies. The experienced skipper is tired of seeing this happen to his boys. Luckily no one was seriously injured.
That doesn’t mean Showalter won’t do everything in its power to protect its players. There’s a lot of pressure on the Mets to live up to the hype this year after such a busy offseason.
That included the signing of Max Scherzer, who himself was furious earlier in the competition. In case you missed it, Scherzer was spotted in a heated back-and-forth with the home plate umpire. Tensions for the Mets overall have been rising since the game began.
If another Mets player gets drilled in this case, you can expect an even more heated Showalter to voice his displeasure. Showalter is also likely to comment on the McNeil HBP after it is completed. You can tell how upset he was about it.
