British police are officially investigating DJ Tim Westwood over decades of allegations of sexual misconduct by several black women
It looks like a British hip hop DJ Tim Westwood may finally be forced to answer numerous sexual assault allegations. As previously reported, the acclaimed entertainer “resigned” from his radio show Capital Xtra in April after dozens of women complained that he had allegedly been groped or sexually assaulted.
The Metropolitan Police last week released a statement on Scotland Yard’s inquiry into allegations against Westwood that date back to 1982.
“Detectives with the Met’s Central Specialist Crime continue to investigate four reports relating to allegations of sex crimes allegedly committed by a man. The crimes are said to have occurred in London in 1982, 1985, 2010 and 2016. There were no arrests, the investigation is ongoing.”
The bombastic investigation comes after reports and allegations that Westwood used his influence in the music industry to lure and exploit women. The Guardian and BBC News launched their own inquiries into similar incidents of misconduct from 1998 and 2017. The women were reportedly between the ages of 17 and 22 at the time of the incidents. A large number of incidents happened at his DJ sets or at meetings and greetings with fans. A woman at the time was a 17-year-old singer and spoke about being with the “No. 1 Hip-Hop DJ at the time” to boost her career. Another recalled meeting Westwood at the age of 22 while she was DJing for a London event on New Year’s Day. She said Westwood, who was 59 at the time, ran his hand down her back and up her skirt.
Westwood’s attorneys have previously denied all allegations in their entirety. In a statement, they said: “He has vigorously denied the serious allegations leveled against him in their entirety.”
