A 26-year-old New York man has been charged after authorities said he brutally beat his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter to death at his home in January.

Prosecutors wrote that Owsinski acted with “depraved indifference towards human life” when he “executed recklessly resulting in the risk of serious injury or death to Amara Campbell .”
The indictment further alleges that Rubano’s illegal treatment of Amara stemmed from the girl’s birth.
The filing states that Rubano, from November 14, 2020 to January 25, 2022, “willfully acted in a manner that could harm Amara’s physical, mental, or moral welfare Campbell,” and “failed or refused to exercise reasonable care in controlling the child to prevent the child from becoming an abused child, an abandoned child, a a delinquent minor or a person in need of supervision. ”
After Amara’s death, Sheriff of Fallsburg Simmie Williams said his department will do everything in its power to ensure that justice is served in the case.

Owsinski has been held at the Sullivan County Jail without bond since his initial arrest. He is now scheduled to appear in court again on May 2.
Rubano, who was arrested Friday, is also being held at the Sullivan County Jail. Her bond has been put at $100,000. She is expected to next appear in court on April 28.
The Sullivan County District Attorney’s office declined to comment on pending cases in a notice to Law & Crime. The Fallsburg Police Department did not immediately respond to messages from Law & Crime.
