Breakdown of the Warriors’ Game 1 win over the Nuggets – The Athletic

Here are five observations from the Warriors’ 123-107 Game 1 win over the Nuggets on Saturday night in Chase Center’s playoff debut.

1. The lineup that broke it up

Michael Malone was asked ahead of the game about the difficulties defending the Warriors’ three-man lineup of Steph Curry, Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson. He brought up Denver’s first-round streak from a season ago. The Nuggets faced Portland. The Blazers fielded Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and Norman Powell together on the starting lineup.

“No disrespect to these guys,” Malone called. “But this (Warrior trio) is (the Portland trio) on steroids… I think we’re going to see those three with (Andrew) Wiggins and Draymond (Green) a ton on the floor. The lion’s share of the minutes.”

That’s clearly the lineup Malone fears and anticipates the most, but Curry’s minute limit and Steve Kerr’s sequencing didn’t bring them together in the first 19 minutes of Game 1. Breakdown of the Warriors’ Game 1 win over the Nuggets – The Athletic
