Braves fans will be tired of hearing Chipper Jones’ thoughts on the Mets

Atlanta Braves fans will hate what Chipper Jones had to say about the New York Mets.

Atlanta Braves Legend Chipper Jones might have owned them New York Mets during its illustrious heyday, but he’s not afraid to call it what he sees.

In the ten years since his retirement, Jones has not only been a First Wall Hall of Famer, but has emerged as a pretty good baseball analyst as well as an assistant hitting coach for the only team he’s ever played for. Not afraid to speak his mind, Jones said the Mets are the best team in baseball right now. He says his Braves need to take better care of business in the division game.

Here’s what Jones said about the airwaves to the delight of die-hard Mets fans everywhere.

“Listen. The New York Mets are a really, really good ball club. And I think right now the top two teams in Major League Baseball are the New York Mets and the Houston Astros. They’re certainly playing that way at this point. The Braves continued on that streak of 14 straight wins, but the fact of the matter is they haven’t been very good within the division. The New York Mets basically dominated the division.”

Atlanta won Game 1 of its four-game series against New York on Monday night but lost four of five during the Braves’ previous series in Queens last week.

Chipper Jones sees the New York Mets as one of the top two teams in baseball

If you’re a Braves fan, it’s really easy. Atlanta just needs to beat the Mets with greater regularity, and Jones won’t be used as an awkward spot. Cheering for New York must be music to your ears. Few players, if any, have been as loathed by Mets fans over the years as Jones. Although he named his son after your former stadium, there was an element of respect there.

What it really boils down to is that good pitching is almost always better than great hitting in the postseason. Atlanta may have bigger hitters than New York, but the Mets have two future Hall of Famers in their rotation in Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, as well as one of the most dominant bullpens in all of baseball. Although the gap between the teams is not large, the Mets are ahead.

Ultimately, six more games remain between these bitter NL East rivals. Luckily for Atlanta, the entire remaining half-dozen will be played at Truist Park. Barring anything shocking, both clubs will be two of the better teams on the senior circuit in the postseason. However, only one can win the divisional crown and secure a crucial first round bye from the NLDS.

It may have killed Jones to say these things, but it’s good for him to break down prejudices to become an analyst. Braves fans will be tired of hearing Chipper Jones’ thoughts on the Mets
