Braves fans can no longer decipher Kenley Jansen from Will Smith

Braves fans have long lamented taking Will Smith out of the bullpen, but after Kenley Jansen botched another save to ruin a comeback, they can’t tell the difference.

In the last couple of years Atlanta Braves Fans were no strangers to feelings of existential dread whenever Will Smith ran out of the bullpen to try and end a tight game. For what felt like most of the time, the results were far from favorable for the World Series champions. But now that Smith’s traded on deadline, those feelings should be gone… right?

Well, not so much thanks to Kenley Jansen.

Jansen has struggled mightily over the last few months or so but had shown lightning signs of late that he was finding his way again. However, that all went away Sunday night against the Seattle Mariners.

After this brave came back from a 6-2 deficit and went ahead in the ninth inning to take a 7-6 lead on the back of a three-run Michael Harris II home run and then a two-run shot by Robbie Grossman . Jansen took the bump to close it out. Rather than seal the comeback win, however, Jansen horribly bungled another save, giving up a solo home run against Julio Rodriguez and then a walk-off solo shot against Eugenio Suarez.

Braves fans hate Kenley Jansen after another screwed up save ruins comeback

Fans are simply fed up with Jansen in the narrower role and had no problem venting their displeasure after seeing another disastrous result as he went into a tight game.

Atlanta were traded for Raisiel Iglesias before the deadline and given Jansen’s struggles with October coming, it would be shocking to see manager Brian Snitker not looking to the newcomer sooner rather than later for a possible takeover as a closer.

Right now, Jansen’s missed save against Seattle puts the Braves back 1.5 games in the NL East race over the Mets after they took the lead just two days ago. And if they don’t find a solution soon, their chances of making the division will quickly fade. Braves fans can no longer decipher Kenley Jansen from Will Smith
