Braves confident they can replace Freddie Freeman in 1 division

The Atlanta Braves believe they can replace Freddie Freeman as leader, although his field stats may be a bit tougher.

There is something to be said about the reliable, veteran presence in the clubhouse. While Freeman has been among the NL MVP’s favorites year after year, he’s also a leader.

Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos went to great lengths to substitute Freeman, trading for Matt Olson, formerly of Oakland Athletics. The Braves also signed an eight-year contract with Olson.

But Freeman’s leadership and steady presence are going to be a little tougher going forward. The people in the club knew this, but they were trying their best to get ahead.

“I think in this club, we have a bunch of different leaders and a bunch of followers,” Tyler Matzek said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Braves must replace Freeman by the committee on the field, and in the clubhouse. They are well aware of that.

“I don’t think it’s going to be the people you’re necessarily expecting, but (Travis d’Arnaud and Dansby Swanson) did a great job of rallying people and keeping us together,” Ian Anderson said. “I think now it’s more like by the committee.”

The Braves are no longer a burgeoning youth team and are looking to reach the pinnacle of baseball. Atlanta won the World Series last season, and much of that team is still intact. They were there, did it. A repetition is very good in the question.

“I think if someone spoke up, there would be a lot of respect in this dressing room,” Anderson continued. “Without any courage, without any ego that would be like, ‘Oh, that guy doesn’t deserve to say anything.’ We’ve been through this together so I think at this point, if someone steps up and says something, it’s going to carry weight. “

That’s the exact mentality the Braves need to keep growing, and perhaps turn a great year into something much greater. Braves confident they can replace Freddie Freeman in 1 division
