Brandi Carlile, Japanese Breakfast performs for “Austin City Limits”.

The PBS live performance series Austin City Limits has announced the lineup for its 48th new season. The first of seven episodes will air October 1 at 8pm CT/9pm ET with an appearance from Brandi Carlile.

Opening the season, Carlile makes her third appearance on the “ACL” stage, where she performs a variety of songs from her 17-year recording career along with selections from her most recent album, last year’s “In These Silent Days” by a nine-piece Tape.

Alongside Carlile, “ACL” will highlight a series of highly-anticipated debut appearances in new hour-long episodes that will be released weekly. Guests include Japanese Breakfast and Arlo Parks (Oct 8), Sylvan Esso and Lucius (Oct 15), Allison Russell and the Weather Station (Oct 22), Parker McCollum and Robert Earl Keen (Oct 29 ) and recurring favorite Lyle Lovett and His Big Band (Nov. 5).

Concluding the first half of Season 48, Cuban funk artists Cimafunk and the Tribe will host the entire episode, which will air on November 12th. The nine-piece band will perform music from their soulful album El Alimento.

“We’re particularly proud of the truly historic line-up for our new season, and we’re only halfway there,” said Terry Lickona, longtime executive producer of ACL. “Never before have we presented such an amazing mix of diverse and eclectic artists, each making their mark on contemporary music with their own unique talents. We continue our musical journey from country to funk, plus the return of a long-standing favorite.”

ACL released a sneak peek at Japanese Breakfast – aka indie singer-songwriter Michelle Zaune – with “Posing for Cars” from 2021’s groundbreaking album Jubilee. In the video, Zauner is surrounded by nothing but the dimly lit stage set, while an eight-piece band slowly begins to populate the floor behind her.

Full programming for the full 14-week season, including seven new episodes, to air from January 2023 will be announced at a later date.
