Released earlier this year, Tiny Tina’s Wonderland has proven to be a huge hit for Gearbox and 2K. In fact, it was doing so well that Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed it border areas Spin-off is now the start of a brand new franchise with more Wonderlands content to come in the future.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderland was released in March of this year and was widely acclaimed by fans and critics for its blend of first-person shooting, looting, and fantasy tropes. The game is a border areas Spin-off starring Tiny Tina, who hosts a tabletop role-playing game with other characters voiced by celebrities, such as Will Arnett’s villainous Dragon Lord. It was released on most platforms and suffered from some Initial errors and connection problemsit has since been improved and even preserved some new DLC in the last few months. All in all, it’s a damn good game, and it seems like it’s now the start of something bigger: a whole new franchise.

Gearbox Entertainment’s roadmap names 10 AAA games in the near future

During yesterday Embracer Group Annual General MeetingPitchford talked about how successful wonderland and said that it “shattered” all of Gearbox’s critical and commercial expectations. While this will no doubt mean that Gearbox and its parent company Embracer will see additional cash, the CEO also confirmed that more Wonderlands-related content is to come, saying:

“I am pleased to report that alongside great financial rewards from this win to come in the quarters to come, we have established a firm foothold and clearly now have a new franchise on our hands with future experiences at Gearbox already in development.”

It is unclear which “future experiences” are already being developed. It could be a big, new paid extension wonderland or a complete sequel. Or maybe both!

This is some much-needed good news for Embracer, as another of its studios, Volition, hasn’t had nearly as much success with it Saints Row reboot. While I personally enjoyed it the game, most other people don’t, and even Embracer’s CEO seemed disappointed through receipt and sale. Borderlands spin-off Wonderlands will be a new franchise
