No. 19 SDSU organizes Boise State
SET Scenario (as of Sunday, November 21)
* Mountain West championships are underway Friday morning as Boise State (one of three tied at the top of the Mountain Division with a 5-2 record) and San Diego State (alone topping the West Division with a record. 6-1) meet at the 2021 regular season finale.
* San Diego State can claim a spot in the Mountain West Championship Game on December 4 with a loss to Fresno State at San José State on Thanksgiving or by winning the game against the Broncos on Friday.
* Before the game, the State of San Diego will honor the 32 seniors who played in the final home game of the season. (Note that some seniors are expected to return next season using an extra year of eligibility provided by the NCAA due to COVID-19 in 2020).
* San Diego State has had its fifth season of 10 wins in the past seven years. Right now, there are only seven schools with five 10-win seasons or more since 2015 – Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oklahoma. Appalachian State (9-2), Boise State (7-4) and Wisconsin (8-3) are the mathematical survivors to join the group.
* With a 10-1 scoreline, San Diego State has its best start since an 11-0 finish in 1969. This is Aztec’s best start in 44 seasons (since the 10-1 mark in 1977)
* San Diego State is in its 99th year of football and has never won 11 regular-season games in any one campaign (not counting the conference championship and bowl games).
* This is only the fourth 10-1 start in San Diego State I Division history (1969, 1976, 1977 and 2021).
* San Diego State is one of only 12 teams in the nation to have 1 or less loss (3 teams unbeaten and 9 teams 1 loss).
* The Aztecs are 6-0 decided by a score or less (draw with Oklahoma, also 6-0) for best domestic record.
* San Diego State and Boise State will meet for the seventh time on Friday. The series drew 3-3, with four of the previous six being decided by six points or less. The national ranking teams are 1-2 in the series while the top laners are 4-2 in the matches between the two teams.
* San Diego State played four and a half games better than last season, going from 4-4 to 10-1. That tied for the sixth-biggest spin in the nation.
*SDSU is 19th in the latest College Football League rankings (November 16), up from 22nd a week earlier and 24th on November 2nd.
* The Aztecs rose one spot in both the AP Top 25 poll and this week’s coaches at number 22. SDSU ranked nationally in the AP poll for academic achievement sixth week in this season (SDSU was nationally ranked for five weeks 1970).
*This is the 30th week SDSU has appeared in the AP poll in school history and its 16th appearance since the start of the ’16 campaign.
* SDSU has appeared in the AP Top 25 in four of the past six seasons (2016, 2017, 2019 and 2021) after experiencing a drought with 341 votes (November 14, 1995 to September 11, 2019). 2016).
* Last Saturday, SDSU executed its formula perfectly, getting +1 revenue margin and +18 average field position margin to complete a perfect regular season campaign with a win 28-20 at UNLV.
