Bobby Lashley discusses the lack of diversity in the history of WWE titles

When talking to DAZN Bobby Lashley talked about the lack of diversity WWE Championship images viewed. He discussed whether it was something that bothered him on a personal level.
“No. I think what it does is it gives the opportunity to move forward to have more of that,” he said. I’m excited because they have a chance to step up and win that title, and when they do, it just keeps increasing, so I’m not disappointed.
“Because if you look at our roster right now, we have a lot of African-Americans or blacks on the roster that could step up and potentially win a world title. So when they get a chance to do what they need to do and get where they need to go, they’ll be there. They will have that chance. “
Bobby Lashley loses the WWE Championship to Current owner, Big E. This marks the second consecutive African-American to hold the title, and he spoke about how much that means to him.
“I think it is a phenomenon. That’s what I try to say when people ask me about racing. The biggest thing for me is that I want to make sure it’s a benchmark,” said Lashley. “I want to make all of this the norm. Like when I win the title, they say, ‘Oh, you’re the third African-American. You’re the third black champion and then Big E is the fourth’ champion.
“I thought, ‘We don’t need to put it next to it anymore. It’s just the norm ‘. I want it to be the norm for anyone. We don’t want to say, ‘You’re this second African American, you’re this second Mexican, you’re this second’. It’s not even about that anymore. I think it just makes it the norm,” he said. “Everybody has a chance to win that title. We put to work. You do what you have to do. You hustle, and you have a chance to win it and it doesn’t have an asterisk in your name. It’s just – ‘This is the guy, this is the guy of now.’ I’m glad we broke those barriers and started making this the norm. But in the end, I just wanted to be, ‘This is your champion, your period’. “
