Bob Saget’s death highlights awareness of head trauma

ST. LOUIS – Bob Saget’s Tragedy highlights the importance of taking head injuries seriously and knowing when to seek medical help.
A trauma surgeon at SSM Health DePaul Hospital told Fox 2’s Dan Gray that trauma to any area of the head can be dangerous.
Gray asked what can happen internally when a person has an injury to the back of the head.
Trauma surgeon Dr Anil Srivastava said: ‘I’ve seen people banging their heads on their backs can get internal bleeding.
He says he sees patients with head injuries almost every day, and that the following symptoms are precursors of a more serious head injury:
- Severe headache
- Nausea
- Weak hands and feet
- Panic
Dr Srivastava said a healthy person with a head injury should be monitored by someone at home. If they do fall asleep, they should be woken up every few hours to make sure they’re okay.
If a person is considered to be at high risk for a head injury, they should seek medical help even if it is a minor injury.
“If someone has predisposing factors like advanced age, someone over 65, someone taking blood thinners, someone with some underlying health problems like high blood pressure, (for) people who are sick, The recommendation is to go to the emergency room,” says Dr. Srivastava.
Dr Srivastava said it’s important to understand that when it comes to a possible brain injury, you always want to be cautious and seek medical attention.
