Bob Dylan Audiobook narrators include Helen Mirren and Rita Moreno

The cast list for the audiobook version of Bob Dylan’s forthcoming book has come to light and reads like a who’s who of Oscar nominees for decades, with the author doing some of the reading himself.

Voice actors for The Philosophy of Modern Song include Jeff Bridges, Steve Buscemi, John Goodman, Oscar Isaac, Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno, Sissy Spacek, Alfre Woodard, Jeffrey Wright and Renée Zellweger.

This lineup of All-Star Dylan substitutes has yet to be officially announced. It was first published by British magazine Uncut; diversity confirmed the list.

The Philosophy of Modern Song is a collection of essays on 66 different songs that Dylan considers great pieces of songwriting. It will be released by Simon & Schuster on November 8th.

The message from audiobook readers follows last month’s unveiling of the 66 tunes Dylan covers in the upcoming book. It will feature his reviews of classic songs written and/or recorded by the likes of Jimmy Reed, Willie Nelson, Little Richard, Nina Simone, Elvis Costello and Townes Van Zandt, along with perhaps less-anticipated picks like Cher’s “Gypsiees, Tramps and Thieves, The Eagles’ Witchy Woman, The Fugs’ CIA Man and Rosemary Clooney’s Come On A House. The song list includes four popularized by Elvis Presley, three famously recorded by Ray Charles and two from Frank Sinatra’s catalogue. The oldest song on Dylan’s list is Stephen Foster’s “Nelly Was a Lady,” written in 1849, and the youngest is the late Warren Zevon’s “Dirty Life and Times,” from the singer’s 2003 farewell album.
