Blue Devil Adds Katie Codd for the 2022-23 Campaign

DURHAM – Head Coach Jamie Ashworth welcomed another top player to the Duke women’s tennis program, with the signing Katie Codd is the first member of the class of 2022-23.

Codd, a blue chip player, is currently ranked 14th nationally by TennisRecruiting.net, as well as number 4 in California and the Southwest region. She is also currently ranked 19th on UTSA’s national under-18 list.

“I chose Duke because I felt like I really connected with the coaches and players there,” Codd said. “I feel the team is like a family and I really want to be a part of that. I also feel Duke has a great combination of strong academics and a strong tennis program.”

Most recently, Codd opened his fall schedule at the USTA Billie Jean King National Hard Court Championships in August and finished as a singles quarter-finalist in the division. 18-year-old female, as well as the ITF W60 Rancho Santa Fe tennis tournament in October, where she advanced to the second round of the singles qualifying draw.

Earlier in the summer, the Carlsbad, California, native collected singles championships in the ITA Summer Circuit Northwestern Singles and USTA National Level 2 Singles events, as well as finishing third in doubles.

During Codd’s junior season at Canyon Crest Academy in 2021, tennis was conducted as a team sport for the first time in team competition based on a revised schedule because of the pandemic. Codd, along with his brother Jackson, won 11-1 in doubles during the varsity season and helped lead Canyon Crest to the CIF Team Spring Championship and appearance in the Championship semifinals. California state area spring, as well as the spring North County Convention Association Mixed Doubles (NCCA) Championship and finished as runner-up in the San Diego Section CIF mixed doubles championship. She was also a finalist for the 2021 CIF Spring Mixed Singles Championship.

Codd spent her sophomore year competing on the junior track, starting with the USTA National Winter Championships, where she took home the singles title and second place in doubles. in the 16th division, before going on to the semifinals at the July ITA Summer Circuit. In October 2020, she won the title in the Newport Beach Prize and also advanced to the quarterfinals in the Oracle ITA Masters Tournament.

As a freshman, Codd had a 15-0 record during the varsity season en route to the 2018 CIF Singles title, while also assisting Canyon Crest to win the CIF Team Championship.

Codd will go to school and begin playing for the Blues in the fall of 2022.
