Bindi Irwin slammed for ‘pathetic, useless’ reaction to ‘tragedy’

Bindi Irwin has been criticized online for “empty words” for her reaction to a “tragedy” involving a famous emu in the US.
Some social media users have slammed the 24-year-old “wildlife warrior” for not using her “unique position” and “influence and contacts to actually help the sick animal.”

Emmanuel the emu has bird flu, a deadly disease that has killed 99 percent of the other birds on the Florida property, Knuckle Bump Farms, where he lives.
The bird’s owner, Taylor Blake, had reached out to the Irwins on Twitter, asking for help over what she called a “massive tragedy.”
Bindi Irwin replied that although Australia Zoo has treated more than 100,000 animals, “it has never treated an emu with this particular disease”.
“We have to rely on our animal experts who have more experience with this bird flu,” she began in a tweet in response to Blake’s plea for help.
She signed the response, “Sending love and light from our entire family.”
Some on social media have criticized Irwin’s message, suggesting there may be something the family could do to help.
However, other commenters have dismissed the criticism as misplaced, believing the “quiet achievers” are working behind the scenes to help Knuckle Bump Farms.
criticism
“What a pathetic, useless response,” a Twitter user began of Bindi Irwin’s reaction to Blake’s outreach.
“Zero effort to help when you’re in a supposedly unique position to use your influence and contacts to actually help her.”
Another wrote: “There’s a lot they (the Irwins) can do. Very few people have their massive access.”
“Thoughts and prayers are nice but isn’t there someone you could recommend as your family has been in this field for years?” said another. “Empty words.”
Adding another: “So you don’t know anyone in your network who could help?
“One would assume you wouldn’t have a hard time asking around or spreading the word in the hope that someone with the right experience would come forward.”
In Irwin’s reply to Blake, she had first thanked the bird lover for reaching out to family and Australia Zoo.
She understood Blake’s plight but said the zoo had very limited experience treating birds sick with avian flu.
“Our hearts are with you and we appreciate your caring for you so much and your compassion for dear Emmanuel,” said the Australian conservationist.
“We believe that we must all have love for each and every animal.
“We hope that someone with more experience in this area can help.”
“Quiet performers”
While some felt the answer fell short, others thought the statement that the Blake Zoo’s services could not help Emmanuel was quite accurate.
“They are very honest about what their services can provide…no bullshit…Emmanuel doesn’t need bullshit,” said one Irwin supporter.
“I’m pretty sure they’re helping behind the scenes to find the right specialists for Emmanuel. Quiet performers.”
“Such a heartfelt answer. Another reason to love the Irwin family. Sending love to Emmanuel and his people,” said another.
7Life has reached out to Australia Zoo for comment.
Blake’s last written update on Emmanuel on Oct. 16 read, “He’s a fighter and I believe with all my heart that he will make a full recovery.”
