Bills’ loss to Patriots may have knocked them out of AFC Playoff picture

Monday night 14-10 defeats New England Patriots maybe not Buffalo Bills’ worst loss of the season, but it certainly could have been their biggest cost.

NS The patriots tried only three times to pass from midfielder Mac Jones in their 14-10 win at prime time, up two places above the Bills for the top spot in the AFC East standings.

As New England enters goodbye week, the Bills have a tough task ahead of them. After once nearing the top of the AFC rankings, Buffalo fell all the way to the seventh and final seed in the playoffs at the convention.

Not only do they need to hang on to get into the post-season, their path through the rest of the season is also challenging. After a painful home defeat that could see them face New England in the division, they now have two road games left in what they will almost certainly be the underdogs: at Tampa Bay and at New England.

Entering Week 14, Bills is the 3.5-point street dog to Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the late afternoon game this week at Raymond James Stadium. This will not be an easy task, especially when you consider the betting trends that go along with it. Tampa Bay is unbeaten at home, 4-1 to spread, including the post-Week 1 game against Dallas, and 2-1 ATS with residual advantage, including a 16.3-point win . via TeamRankings.

Buffalo is now overtaken by New England in split ratio at WynnBET Sportsbook, as well as in Super Bowl Odds. After opening before Week 13 at +750, third in the NFL to win it all, they have now dropped to +900, the sixth highest in the league. Meanwhile, the Patriots opened last week at +1400 to win the Lombardi Cup, but have gone all the way up to +700, just behind the Buccaneers, Packers and Chiefs.

The good news for the Bills is that they have three easy wins on their schedule, home games against the Carolinas and Atlanta and the New York Jets. But that only gets them 10 wins as they are currently sitting 7-5. That said, they’ll need a road win against Tampa Bay or New England to get through the post-season if everything else goes as planned.

Worse things have happened, but the Bills’ failure to reach the knockout stages next year after a game in the AFC Championship will become one of the biggest shockers of the 2021 NFL season.
