Billie Eilish paid tribute to the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins during her performance at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

While singing her Grammy-nominated song “Happier Than Ever” at the awards ceremony in Las Vegas on Sunday night, the pop star wore an oversized black t-shirt with a photo of Hawkins’ face on it. At the Oscars last week, Eilish opened up Access Hollywood When she heard the news of the drummer’s death, “it was incredibly heartbreaking. It was just before we went on stage. And we got the message and it really, really ripped us all apart. It’s horribly, terribly tragic.” Her brother Finneas added: “Taylor was such a legendary player. We were admirers of his work years before we met him. And we’ve only met him a few times… I wish we could spend more time with him, but he couldn’t have been a kinder, cooler, more generous person either. And such a deeply inspiring person. We are just heartbroken.”

The Foo Fighters were scheduled to perform at the Grammys before the sudden, unexpected death of Hawkins. However, on Tuesday the band announced they were canceling the rest of their upcoming concert dates due to the loss. “We regret and share our disappointment that we won’t be seeing each other as planned,” the band said in a statement. “Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, heal, draw loved ones closer, and cherish all the music and memories we’ve made together.”

Despite the cancellation of Foo Fighters, CBS executive vice president of specials, music and live events Jack Sussman confirmed ahead of the awards show that the Grammys are planning a special tribute to Hawkins’ life and work. Sussman said yes in a statement diversity, “We will honor his memory in some way. We want to find out what is the right thing to do that is respectful of everyone involved. we are patient We plan to the end.”
