Bill Belichick is furious about not having an offensive play caller

Bill Belichick hasn’t given a hint as to who the New England Patriots’ offensive play-caller will be for the upcoming season.

That New England Patriots returned to the playoffs last season after missing it the year before, where they were eliminated in the wild card round by rival Buffalo Bills. After that, they saw offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels leave to become the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. That left the question unanswered as to who will be the team’s attacking player in the 2022 season.

During the Patriots’ minicamp, Belichick was asked who would be the play-caller for the team’s offense, and he sarcastically popped a question of his own. It was “What pieces do we call? Minicamp plays?”

Patriots: Bill Belichick doesn’t have a timeline for naming offensive players

However, Belichick said he has no specific timeline as to when he will announce his decision.

There are two names that have been associated with the position recently and they are former head coaches Joe Judge and Matt Patricia.

Judge was fired from the New York Giants after two seasons, ending 2021 in complete disaster highlighted by an 11-minute post-game rant who becomes a rival, and back-to-back quarterback sneak calls in New York’s own territory in the regular-season finals. He was brought back to New England, this time as an offensive assistant. But recently it was revealed that Judge is coaching the quarterbacks, which was later confirmed by Mac Jones. You can listen to the second year signal caller’s comments NBC Sports Boston tweet below:

After being hired as head coach by the Detroit Lions in 2018, Patricia was fired midway through the 2020 season. He returned to the Patriots in 2021. The team page lists him as a Senior Football Advisor, but he has been seen working with the offensive line.

Belichick has an important decision to make considering this is Jones’ second year as a starting quarterback. Will he choose either Judge or Patricia? Or will he name the pieces himself? We’ll find out when the Patriots head coach announces the decision… whenever that will be. Bill Belichick is furious about not having an offensive play caller
