President Biden didn’t make that clear in a recent interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt, in which he was recently asked about the potential pitfalls of leaving Afghanistan.
Instead of lying or sounding smart, Biden snapped when asked about leaving Afghanistan and what might happen when we do. See that crisis here:
As you can hear in the interview, it begins with Holt asking Biden about the evacuation, and if he thinks that in prompting the evacuation, he “ignores the handwriting on the wall, saying:
“On the subject of American citizenship, I must draw your attention to the Army report, an investigative report that was released into what led to the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan,” Holt said. “It interviewed many officials and military officers who said the authorities ignored the handwriting on the wall.
Another described trying to get people in the embassy ready to evacuate, encountering people who essentially denied the situation. Which ring is right for you?”
Biden, at the time, could have done anything. He may deny the existence of the report, say he saw it but think it’s time to end the war anyway, or say he doesn’t trust the intelligence agencies. “WMDs in Iraq” and their predictions.
But that’s not what he did. Instead, he gets cranky and his brain starts to melt as he denies everything, saying “Is not. That’s not what I was told.”
At that point, Holt pressed him, demanding “You know that US government officials are getting ready, they know it’s time to get out?”
Then Biden said “No, what I was told… no one told me that… look, there’s no good time to get out. But if we hadn’t gotten out yet, they conceded that we would have to put a lot of troops back in. Not just 2,000, 4,000. We will have to significantly increase our numbers and will return in this war of attrition. ”
After that, Holt finally pressed Biden enough to issue a definitive statement on the report.
Asked again about it, he said “I just want to clarify. Are you refuting the conclusions or accounts contained in this Army report?”
“Yes I‘ Biden replied.
“So they [the reports] incorrect?“The host asked again, just to make sure Biden knew what he was talking about and what he was saying.
But Biden didn’t take the opportunity to give himself space to think about what he was saying then. Instead, he reaffirmed his claims, saying “I am rejecting them.”
That’s not what Washington Post reported about the problem. It, in a recent report, claimed that officials at the White House had resisted evacuating personnel and allies for weeks ahead of schedule, leading to chaos when the actual withdrawal occurred.
Given that both the Washington Post and Biden are notorious for lying, we’ll just have to wait and see if it turns out to be telling the truth.
