Biden wants to send DOJ after Trump for January 6th

Given that America is ruled by representatives of the people rather than by fickle emperors or generalissimo, there are two important traditions that accompany the transfer of power from one party to another: 1) it is peaceful and 2) pursuing one’s own politics Enemies just because they are political enemies is a no-go.

Well, now Slow Joe is considering going all-in to use the DOJ to prosecute Trump over the unfortunate Jan. 6 trespassing.

The New York Times reported in a Saturday article on Biden’s intentions to prosecute Trump for Jan. 6. saying:

It was only late last year that Mr. Biden confided in his inner circle He believed former President Donald J. Trump was a threat to democracy and should be prosecuted, according to two people familiar with his comments. And although the President never directly communicated his frustration to Mr. Garland, He has said privately that he wanted Mr. Garland to behave less like a ponderous judge and more like a prosecutor ready to take decisive action against the events of January 6th.

In other words, if the NYT report is to be believed, Biden wants Garland to behave like NKVD/KGB chief Lavrentiy Beria, who allegedly said Stalin “Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime.”

Garland would have to get creative to find the crime, as it’s not clear what exactly Trump could be prosecuted for in a non-Stalinist justice system. The Washington Examiner, which reports it, notes that:

What Trump is being charged with is unclear. But the House committee investigating the Capitol riot says its investigators have reason to believe Trump and his associates broke multiple laws to overturn the 2020 election. In a recent court filing for John Eastman, a conservative lawyer associated with Trump, the panel said it had evidence that Trump may have been involved in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States and make counting of electoral votes by Congress illegal to hinder.

Despite this, the House Committee can only issue a criminal referral, with the responsibility resting with the Department of Justice.

Lets see what happens. So far, AG Garland has mostly stayed aloof from Biden’s calls to prosecute Trump for anything, distancing the DOJ from the White House back in October 2021 when Biden called for prosecution of those who objected to the Jan. 6-related subpoenas resisted and told the Washington Examiner”The Department of Justice makes its own independent decisions in all law enforcement proceedings, based solely on facts and the law. Period. Period.

While Biden may want to pressure Garland to go after Trump and Trump associates, for now it looks like the DOJ is fighting back. Biden wants to send DOJ after Trump for January 6th
