‘Betrayed’ Ronaldo lets go of Manchester United and manager Erik ten Hag: ‘I will never have any respect for you’

Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has certainly played his last game for Manchester United after lashing out at manager Erik ten Hag and the club in a sensationally explosive interview.

In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo said he felt “betrayed” by Manchester United and “I have no respect for him (Erik ten Hag) because he shows no respect for me”.

“Manchester United tried to force me to get kicked out,” Ronaldo told The Sun.

“Not only the manager but also the other guys at the club. I felt cheated.

“I feel like some people didn’t want me at Manchester United, not just this year but last season too.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner had a frosty relationship with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and has struggled this season after making just 16 appearances and scoring three goals in all competitions.

“I have no respect for him because he shows no respect for me,” Ronaldo said of ten Hag.

“If you don’t respect me, I will never respect you.”

Former Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney has also been in Ronaldo’s sights after Rooney recently told Ronaldo his behavior this season had been “unacceptable” and that he should “put your head down and work and be ready to play, when the manager needs you”.

“I don’t know why he criticizes me so badly…probably because he retired and I’m still playing at a high level,” Ronaldo said of Rooney.

“I’m not going to say I’m better looking than him. which is true.”

United have struggled since legend Sir Alex Ferguson retired as manager in 2013 and the club hired numerous managers, all of whom have had limited success.

Ronaldo said the club have not developed in recent years since Ferguson’s retirement.

“I haven’t seen any development at the club since Sir Alex left. Nothing had changed,” he said.

“He (Ferguson) knows better than anyone that the club is not on the path they deserve. He knows. Everyone knows.

“The people who don’t see that… because they don’t want to see it. You are blind.”

Although the 37-year-old was heavily critical of Manchester United, he said he will always love the club and the fans have always been good to him.

“I think the fans should know the truth. I want the best for the club,” said Ronaldo.

“I love Manchester United, I love the fans, they are always on my side.”

As Ronaldo prepares to travel to Qatar to play with Portugal at the FIFA World Cup, it remains to be seen what damage the bombshell interview will do to his Manchester United legacy.

In a recent game against Tottenham he was left on the bench again and then struck after going through the tunnel with a few minutes to go.

After that incident, ten Hag said he would “deal” with Ronaldo later and dropped him from the squad to face Chelsea.
