Beth Phoenix Says ‘The Glamazon’ Nickname Came From ‘Sex in the City’

Beth Phoenix was interviewed on “Out of Character with .” Ryan Satin. She talks about NXT 2.0, her music career, transition to commentator, her friendship with Natalya and more.
Phoenix said she came up with the name “The Glamazon” from an episode of the TV show “Sex in the City”:
“I’ve heard this term and I’m like, yes, that’s the wrestling moniker. At the time, aside from the Ninth Wonder of the World, women weren’t really attached to nicknames like The Rock. I feel like I’m in a transitional phase in the female division. The era that I’m in, we’ve lost a lot of the golden eras of, so to speak, Trish, Jazz, Lita, and all those characters. We are rebuilding the division. In that context, there weren’t any girls with that nickname. That’s more than they use their names. I feel like I’m doing everything I can to stand out, and so it’s like I’m about to brand myself as The Glamazon and wear a tiara. So if I only had 30 seconds on TV, you might not remember my name, but you’d say, ‘Oh, that’s the girl with the crown. It’s the crown girl. ‘ I was hoping Glamazon would be a good hook. A name like Beth might be a popular one, but you might remember, ‘Oh, Glamazon, that’s neat. She’s like a big Amazonian type of woman. ‘ I’m trying to connect with the audience to give them something memorable so at the women’s tournament I’ll be one of the standouts. ”
Beth Phoenix has released her first EP called “Stone Rose & Bone”. Her first single was called “Find Your Why”. Phoenix talked about working as a liturgical pianist to fund her wrestling as she began her wrestling career:
“At one point, music supported my wrestling routine because I was serving as a pianist performing at funerals, weddings and mass. I made money doing that and then took that money and financed my wrestling routine, filling the tank with gas, buying tights, boots and so on. It’s like next to me hustling begging for my future to hustle. It’s great. It was a fun time in my life. The music has always been there the whole way. “
