Benedict Cumberbatch first doubts ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ success

Benedict Cumberbatch admit Empire Magazine that at first he was skeptical about “Spider-Man: There’s no way home“Is a blockbuster that is said to save theaters amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think when Kevin Feige first said, ‘We’re going to know about the future of cinema, or the experience of going to the cinema, after this movie,’ I said, ‘Okay, everybody’s been drinking too much. Lots of Kool-Aids around here,’” Cumberbatch said.

Superhero movie, booked all three repetitions of Spider-Man starring Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland in the same film, respectively, opens up a staggering $260 million. “No Way Home” has become biggest movie in Sony history and topped “Avatar” to become the third-biggest movie ever at the domestic box office.

“My ignorance was exposed,” added Cumberbatch, who played Doctor Strange in the MCU movies.

Since the pandemic success of “No Way Home”, Sony and Marvel confirmed to be “actively beginning to develop” more parts of the Dutch-led franchise.

“Amy [Pascal] and me, Disney and Sony are talking – yes, we’re actively working on the next story, which I’m just saying because I don’t want the fans to go through any separation trauma like what happened after ‘Far From Home,’ ” Feige said in a New York Times interview, referring to the time in 2019 when a deal between Disney and Sony to develop more Spider-Man titles went through. “It won’t happen this time.”

Pascal before promised another trilogy: “We were thinking these were three movies, and now we’re going to make three sequels,” said producer Sony. “This isn’t the last movie in our MCU… Yes, Marvel and Sony will continue to work together as partners.”

Raimi, director of the original “Spider-Man” trilogy starring Maguire, says Diversity that his reunion with Marvel was a long time coming.

“Marvel is a great team to work with. [They’re] super professional and supported me every step of the way [but] One thing I know about the Marvel team is that they’re not going to stop,” Raimi said. “They’re going to keep pushing it until it’s as close to great as possible.”
