Ben Stephenson’s Poison Pen Studios Adds Preethi Mavahalli as Creative Director

Ben Stephenson’s new transatlantic screenwriting label Poison Pen Studios has hired Sky Studios executive Preethi Mavahalli as its new creative director.

Prior to joining Sky, Mavahalli was at Indie Mammoth Screen, where she served as director of drama and developed and executive produced hits like The Serpent, Noughts + Crosses and The War of the Worlds. She has also worked at Film4 and Film London.

Poison Pen was launched in July under the ITV Studios banner by Stephenson, former TV boss of Bad Robot. The studio is based between London and LA and will focus on high-end premium dramas. Mavahalli will work alongside Stephenson at both locations.

“When I decided to start my own business, I just wanted one person on my side,” Stephenson said. “I’m so grateful she agreed! Preethi is an exceptionally talented and lovely person with great taste and a fantastic track record. I can’t wait to get started, have fun, and create some great drama with her.”

Mavahalli said: “Working with Ben, a producer I’ve admired for many years, is a dream of an opportunity. I am delighted to be part of this ambitious transatlantic project and can’t wait to get started at Poison Pen Studios.”

At the time of Poison Pen’s launch, ITV Studios chief executive Julian Bellamy said: “Ben is one of the most talented drama executives in the business. His fingerprints can be found on some of the best and most memorable drama series on global television from Westworld to Sherlock. I’m delighted that ITV Studios will be Ben’s partner in his next big chapter – an ambitious new transatlantic company dedicated to producing world-class drama.” Ben Stephenson’s Poison Pen Studios Adds Preethi Mavahalli as Creative Director
