Belal Muhammad says he is the worst matchup for Khamzat Chimaev.
UFC welterweight contender Belal Muhammad believes he’s the only fighter in the division who would be a matchup nightmare for Khamzat Chimaev.
Muhammad will return to the octagon at UFC Vegas 51 against Vicente Luque, a rematch of their first fight at UFC 205. Luque won the fight by KO in the first round, but now he and Muhammad are in the top five.
In addition to being one of the hottest welterweights in the UFC right now, Muhammad is also one of the top MMA analysts for ESPN. Chimaev’s hype train continues after defeating Gilbert Burns at UFC 273.
During his UFC Vegas 51 prefight press conference, Muhammad explained why he wasn’t surprised that Chimaev looked beatable against Burns.
“He was always human to me, so I wanted this fight,” Muhammad said. “I think he’s still a great fighter. He is undefeated and still super young. I think people just portray him as this robot, this Marvel character that he’ll just touch and they’ll fall.
“We all bleed, we are all human. They put him so high that now that he hasn’t gone through world No. 2 he sucks. I’m like, ‘Bro, he’s still a big challenge and a guy who could beat anyone in the division but me.’
Belal Muhammad has two of the best wins of his career behind him
Muhammad looks to add excitement to the welterweight title talks with an impressive display against Luque. He recently won against Stephen Thompson and Demian Maia, two former contenders for the title.
Muhammad is not afraid of Chimaev and is open to the idea of fighting him soon. If he hopes to secure UFC gold, he may have to go through Chimaev to get there.
