“Being called US Open but not allowing players due to vaccinations,” James Melville points out the irony, criticizing US Open authorities over Novak Djokovic’s likely absence

Novak Djokovic, the former world No. 1, claimed his seventh Wimbledon title, his fourth straight at the All England Club, by defeating Nick Kyrgios in a dramatic final on Center Court. He has proven his dominance over the years and his matching win streak at SW19 still continues as he remains undefeated after his last win. But after his win, he’s still unsure if he can play in the next Grand Slam event, namely that US Open 2022 from 29.08.
Djokovic was brave enough to tackle the difficult and tough situations he faced Australian Open because of his vaccination status. He was “unvaccinated” at the time and was expelled from the country and also received a three-year ban from competing in the championship. He was also able to perform well in that Roland Garros. He has maintained a firm stance on his vaccination status due to any kind of pressure, even though it could cost him missing major tournaments. He has been criticized for his behavior, with some calling it a “selfish attitude” or “irresponsible behavior”.

Novak Djokovic hopes to take part in the US Open

Novak Djokovic’s vaccination status remains ‘unvaccinated’ and he has no intention of taking the vaccination any time soon. This has put him in further major trouble as his chances of playing at the US Open 2022 are now absolutely minimal due to the US government’s strict immigration regulations. This hasn’t gone down well with his fans and well-wishers as they want to see the champion back on the hard court.
As of today, there is very little chance Djokovic will take part in the tournament until the US government makes an exception, as the organizers have made it clear that they respect the US government’s immigration rules and unvaccinated foreigners will not be allowed to enter the country
Social commentator, freelance writer and political expert James Melville is the latest person to slam the authorities for their impractical decision to keep the champion out of play. His post on Twitter pointed out the irony that despite the US Open designation, the doors are closed to the 21-time champion due to his vaccination status. He said “The irony of a tennis tournament called the US Open but barring a player’s participation based on their own medical decision.”
If he happens to not be allowed, he next plays at Laver Cup in Team Europe with a star-studded line-up featuring his arch-rivals as teammates led by Bjorn Borg.
