Singapore-based production group Beach House Pictures has teamed up with managing director Raghav Khanna to launch a new entity Riverland Entertainment in Mumbai, India.
The newly formed production company will develop a series of unscripted series and documentaries from India. It does so through partnerships with local Indian talent to create content intended for global and Indian audiences, while leveraging Beach House Pictures’ international expertise and reach, as well as access to Space Lion Studios, Beach House’s post-production facility .
Khanna, a former head of Netflix’s documentary production in Asia Pacific, will be appointed as the new operation’s executive director. He will work closely with Beach House Pictures founders Donovan Chan and Jocelyn Little.
Riverland Entertainment will also provide line production services for incoming international productions, helping them access local talent, crew, permits and tax incentives. In recent years India has adopted a simplified single window clearance process for permit applications and finally this year unveiled a package of site production incentives.
Khanna is also the writer and creative director of the acclaimed food series Raja Rasoi aur Anya Kahaniyaan (available on Netflix). He also served as Executive Producer at Fox and National Geographic on such flagship series as Masters of Taste with Gary Mehigan and Mega Icons.
“We believe India will continue to grow in importance as it becomes a key market for international and regional streamers. We want to work with the country’s amazing creators and platforms to produce a series of new and unique premium stories that shine the spotlight on its most intriguing characters and celebrate its rich history and culture in a variety of ways,” said Chan, Creative Director of Beach house pictures.
“We have worked with Raghav for many years and admire his outstanding leadership, experience and expertise,” said Little, managing director of Beach House Pictures.
“It’s an unprecedented time to be a creator as local stories told with authenticity transcend regional and language boundaries. We aim to work with the Indian creative community and leverage Beach House Pictures’ genre expertise to tell Indian and international audiences stories that are appropriate to their milieu,” said Khanna.
He is also the writer and creative director of the acclaimed food series Raja Rasoi aur Anya Kahaniyaan (available on Netflix). He was executive producer at Fox and National Geographic on their flagship series such as Masters of Taste, starring Gary Mehigan, and Mega Icons.
With its roots in documentary and factual programs and backed by privately owned Canadian media group Blue Ant Media, Beach House has diversified to become a multicultural and multigenre player creating and owning original IP for scripted, factual, unscripted and non-scripted brand programming. It has also been based in Beijing for 15 years and is one of the leading foreign co-producers in China.
In the last three years, Beach House Pictures has acquired Tokyo-based Vesuvius Pictures and Singapore-based Southeast Asian screenwriter Momo Film Co. The company recently opened Space Lion Studios, a Dolby-certified, state-of-the-art post-production facility in Singapore.
