BBC buys Nordic crime drama ‘Trom’ set in the Faroe Islands

BBC crazy guy”Trom,” a psychological crime drama set in the Faroe Islands, will have its international premiere worldwide at Berlinale Series Market Selects.

Based on the crime novels by Jagvan Isaksen, “Trom” was created by Torfinnur Jákupsson and directed by Kasper Barfoed (“Dicte: Crime Reporter”) and Davíd Óskar Ólafsson (“The Valhalla Murders”). The movie show stars Nordic stars including Ulrich Thomsen (“The New Pope”), Maria Rich (“Follow The Money”) and Olaf Johannessen (“The Exception”).

Helene Aurø, director of sales and marketing at REinvent International Sales, said: “We are delighted and proud that the BBC is on board the ‘Trom’ train. “The BBC has aired some of the best Nordic series ever produced in the past and we expect ‘Trom’ to be a hit as well. We are really looking forward to introducing this to UK audiences,” added Aurø.

The six-part show follows a journalist, Hannis Martinsson (Ulrich Thomsen), who unexpectedly receives a text from Sonja, his estranged daughter, saying her life is in danger. Hannis returns home to the Faroes and discovers Sonja’s body in the bloody waters of a whaling. His search for answers soon brings him into conflict with the local police and uncovers a network of secrets within the close-knit community.

“Trom” was joined at an early stage by ZDF and Arte. The series, which is said to be the first show on camera in the lush Faroe Islands, was previously introduced at the Berlinale Co-Pro Series market in 2019.

REinvent International Sales is also working on “Nothing” by Trine Piil a coming-of-age horror film based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Danish author Janne Teller; as well as “Burn My Letters” directed by Björn Runge (“The Wife”) and starring Bill Skarsgård (“Deadpool”), Asta Kamma August (“The Pact”) and Gustav Lindh (“Queen of Hearts”) ).
