Baltimore Symphony Orchestra debuts season 2022-2023, music for Maryland tour – CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) – The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on Tuesday announced their plans for the upcoming season, when it will celebrate its 40th anniversary at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.

The show includes famous guest artists, historic celebrations and daring new music as BSO’s search for the next musical director continues. Marin Alsop resigned in August after 14 years conducting the symphony orchestra.

“There are conductor names you’ll recognize from the current season, while seven potential candidates lead the BSO for the first time,” said Tonya McBride Robles, BSO senior vice president and chief operating officer. said.

Rune Bergmann, Robert Trevino, Jonathon Heyward, Kevin John Edusei, Peter Oundjian, Kwamé Ryan, Matthias Pintscher and Christian Reif are all scheduled to return to run the BSO.

The orchestra will kick off the season on September 17 with its first full gala experience since 2018. Outgoing Pops conductor Jack Everly will lead a program highlighting the history of jazz music. in Baltimore.

Also, for the first time this summer — the Music for Maryland tour, to all 24 state jurisdictions over the next three years.

BSO will begin it in Baltimore County at Oregon Ridge Park on July 3.

“After two difficult years, I think it’s safe to say that we are all ready to come together and feel the magic as we come together in the larger communities,” said County Executive Baltimore, said Johnny Olszewski.

This year’s portion of the tour will conclude in Howard County on August 14 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Some other highlights: GospelFest 2023 scheduled for April 2023, featuring choirs from Morgan and Howard State Universities; Actor Leslie Odom Jr. back during the holiday season; and the orchestra will celebrate Rachmaninoff’s 150th birthday.
