BALTIMORE (WJZ) – Local business owners in Baltimore are getting ready for the busy upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday with lots of chocolates, hearts, flowers, etc.

At Wockenfuss Candies on Harford Road, store manager Andrea Jowanodwitch said staff there made all the candies, truffles and more they needed for the 14th and prepared for one of the busiest times of the year. their year.

The store has dozens of ready-made heart-shaped boxes that customers can fill with chocolates of their choice.

“You can go in and pick your heart, and choose from any of the candies we have on the counter right now,” says Jowanodwitch.

In Federation Hill, decaying chocolate-covered strawberries have been selling fast over the past few days at Berries by Quicha on Light Street.

“You can choose one of 18 different flavors to go inside the box,” says LaQuicha Brown, owner. “We have strawberries that say ‘I love you’, we have edible roses and of course, we have chocolate covered apple candies, which is a new product we just introduced.”

Local florists like Fleur De Lis owner Lana Brown are also gearing up for one of their busiest days of the year. But she says there has been a huge influx of special orders this year.

“It seems like things are getting busier by the day and I think Monday the 14th is going to be crazy,” she said.

Lana said prices have increased since last year.

“Valentine’s Day prices are much higher this time, we usually raise prices for Valentine’s Day because of the high demand for red roses and flowers in general but this year, they’re pretty high,” said Lana. .

Many businesses are offering extended periods for vacations.

Fleur De Lis Florist is open from 9am to 7pm on 12, 13 and 14.

Wockenfuss Candies on Harford Road is open from 9am to 8pm on the 12th, from 9am to 5pm on the 13th and from 9am to 8pm on the 14th.
