Baker Mayfield sends a bold shot at the former team before the Week 1 meeting

Look for Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield, who is doing his best to really take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.

there is no doubt about it, Carolina Panther Starting quarterback Baker Mayfield still harbors major animosities towards his former employers in the Cleveland Browns.

Handpicked from Oklahoma in 2018 to salvage the ailing AFC North franchise, Mayfield had four ups and downs in Cleveland. His rookie year was strong. After a slump as a sophomore, he helped lead the Browns to the playoffs in 2020 for the first time since 2002 and secured their first playoff win since Bill Belichick was their former head coach in 1994.

However, it hit the fan for him and Cleveland fourth-year together. General Manager Andrew Berry was on Mayfield in the middle of last year. After an injury-plagued campaign, Mayfield was traded to Carolina, where he almost immediately beat classmate Sam Darnold for the Panthers starting job. Obviously, Mayfield wants to make the Browns regret ever giving up on him.

“I’m going to take them down,” Mayfield said ahead of the start of Week One at home against the visiting Browns.

Baker Mayfield is absolutely ready to take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 1

It doesn’t matter if you’re a Panthers fan, a fan of a rival NFC South team, or anything else NFL Team, btw not named Cleveland, we’re moving to Mayfield to clean the Browns’ clock in week 1. His attitude isn’t for everyone but he doesn’t deserve to be humiliated like he was when Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was traded for Deshaun Watson and then handed him a fully guaranteed contract.

Mayfield is many things, but he’s not a bad guy. The same cannot be said of the Browns’ new quarterback, who will be suspended for the first 11 games of the 2022 NFL season for rampant sexual misconduct. It will be journeyman Jacoby Brissett who gets the start for Cleveland as the Browns look to keep him together before persona non grata returns.

If you really think about it, what a chance for Mayfield! Even if his quote about the Browns bites his ass, he has a real shot at being the long-term solution at quarterback in Charlotte. If he plays well, he and head coach Matt Rhule could continue working together through 2023. Even if Rhule gets the axe, Mayfield can find another job elsewhere.

For a game that would otherwise have had no enthusiasm, Mayfield has made this game a must-play. Baker Mayfield sends a bold shot at the former team before the Week 1 meeting
