Baker Mayfield Calls NFL After Browns COVID-19 Crisis

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has criticized the NFL’s inconsistency in its COVID protocol by allegedly testing only three NFL teams.

The Cleveland Browns are in the midst of a contentious playoff run, with every game counting toward potential post-season bids.

For the best chance, the Browns will need to play to their fullest potential, which is becoming less and less as players are decimated by positive COVID-19 results.

As of Tuesday, eight Browns players have tested positive for COVID, including Jarvis Landry, the Browns’ longtime clutch extender. Defender Baker Mayfield has contracted the virus, and so has his backup Case Keenum – the Browns are now having to turn to third-string pick Nick Mullins because of the virus.

However, the NFL has yet to postpone Saturday’s Browns game against the Raiders, putting the fighting AFC team at a huge disadvantage.

Mayfield took issue with the NFL’s lackluster response, telling the league to “make your damn decision on protocols.”

Mayfield also accused the NFL of keeping their current schedule “for the money.”

NFL protocols, which have required vaccinated players to only require weekly COVID tests, canceled the tournament this week. More than 75 players have been sidelined because of the virus this week, representing about 4% of the league.

Four percent seems small, but where outbreaks occur adds context. The Browns, for example, were hit harder than the other teams this week.

Mayfield, like teammate Myles Garrett, has criticized the federation for not regularly testing vaccinated players. Garrett calls this “recipe for disaster“, while Mayfield said it” makes no sense. ”

While COVID-19 has been shown to protect people against different strains of coronavirus, some people still get the virus when vaccinated, including the eight Browns patients listed on Tuesday. Three. Emerging strains seem to more resistant to vaccines, which quickly made the NFL’s weekly check policy dangerously inadequate.

Although Mayfield didn’t make it clear what he meant by only three teams being eliminated, the rest of his message was clear: the NFL’s lack of action, before the outbreak and now before the game, will affect seriously affected his team’s chances in the knockout stages.
