Badgers, Gophers in search of Big Ten West crown – The Athletic

Remember when Wisconsin started 1-3? So are we. The Badgers have racked up seven straight wins, including last week’s 35-28 decision against Nebraska, and now it’s just one game away from a trip to Indianapolis. Wisconsin is averaging 21.6 points per game this time around. The Badgers have been one of college football’s best defensive teams all year, ranking first in the number of yards allowed and in the top five for scoring defense and all-around defense. But on such a good ball, Braelon Allen was even better. The freshman is still only 17 years old, but he’s been the offensive catalyst of this run, dashing more than 1,000 meters and hitting the ground 11 times in the past seven weeks.

Wisconsin opens as the road favorite 6.5 points ahead of Minnesota. Badgers and Gophers premieres at 4 p.m. ET on Fox.

The Gophers’ 35-14 win over Indiana last week gives Minnesota an outside chance to win the Big Ten West. Beating Wisconsin is the first step of the equation, except that PJ Fleck’s team still needs Nebraska to beat Iowa and Purdue to beat Indiana. Maybe we should focus on hitting Wisconsin first? This rivalry has been played 130 times, starting in 1890. Wisconsin is 13-2-2 all-time when only the Badgers are ranked for this game, and Minnesota is 1-16 in the previous 17 meetings. .
