Australian Idol 2023: Singer Ricki-Lee opens up about the moment that comes full circle after being announced as the presenter of Australian Idol

Singer Ricki-Lee first rose to fame in 2004 on the second season of Australian Idol.

Eighteen years later, the 36-year-old is in a “full circle moment” when she was asked to return to the show when it reboots on Seven in 2023.

Ricki-Lee, who placed seventh in her series, has been announced to host the new series alongside Scott Tweedie.

Speaking exclusively to 7Entertainment, Ricki-Lee calls the new chapter “surreal because Idol is the show that changed everything for me and started it all.”

“It’s a coming full circle moment that I’m really looking forward to,” she says.

“I am delighted to be back on the show that changed my life, a show that is so iconic to Australians and so nostalgic to so many people.”

The former contestant says she finds it “strange” that she’s “running the show again.”

Ricki-Lee went on to describe the “big shoes” she fills, taking over from former hosts Osher Gunsberg and James Mathison, who appeared on the show between 2003 and 2009.

“Osher and James did such a great job and it was such a big part of the show,” says the singer.

“I have such fond memories of them as hosts on the show – they were such a part of my journey as a contestant.

“So there are big footsteps to fill.”

Through her co-host Scott Tweedie, she described him as “a beautiful human being so we’re going to have a lot of fun.”

“I can’t wait to get into it.

“It’s not going to feel real until we get there and do the auditions and send people in.”

Australian Idol has since started auditioning in Perth and will continue to scour the country for the next Idol.

The four judges were also announced as Kyle Sandilands, Meghan Trainor, Amy Shark and Harry Connick Jr.

Along with Ricki-Lee, the idol franchise has launched the careers of Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Anthony Callea, Casey Donovan, and Courtney Act to name a few talents.

Australian Idol is coming soon to Channel 7 and 7plus.
