The duo married on October 30 at the end of a work trip to Bora Bora – without family or friends present.

“Not that it’s anyone’s business… But I’m happy to do it for you,” Irby began a lengthy caption.

“I’ve received far too many questions about why Ryan and I got married the way we did. So I wanted to answer your questions.”

Irby explained she was an “open book” and felt “this style of wedding needs a voice.”

“Yes, Ryan and I kind of eloped. And I say kind of because we told EVERYONE exactly what our plans were and why we’re doing it. We didn’t want to surprise our families without explanation,” Irby wrote.

“First we planned a regular style home wedding with a beautiful venue and a large guest list.

“We tried to like the idea, but we both tried to convince ourselves to want it because we knew it would make our families happy.”

Irby went on to say that COVID ruined her wedding plans three times before she and her partner “decided to cancel the event.”

“We took it as a sign that we should just flee to a tropical paradise and get married—just like we always envisioned!” Irby wrote.

The swimwear designer said they are “open” with their families and told them about their plan to get married in Bora Bora.

“Where are you upset? Yes of course,” Irby wrote.

“It was a tough decision because the last thing we ever wanted to do was upset our loved ones.

“Why didn’t we just invite the family? My father cannot travel. And if he couldn’t be there, we didn’t think it was fair to invite everyone else.

“Did we celebrate with the family when we got home? Yes! Our families all got together and threw a beautiful dinner for us.

“We had a cake and everything! Although… it was strange to see my mum and dad together at the same table after all these years.”

Irby and her partner first had a private wedding at home, with a celebrant who came to their house and two best friends as groomsmen.

“However, we will not be celebrating this date. Just our ceremony date—October 30,” Irby explained.

“At the end of the day, weddings kind of suck. And no matter what you do, you will upset someone.

“As hard as it may be, you really need to think about yourself and your partner and what you both want.

“It’s too expensive and too much memory not to do it the way you want it.”

Irby is known for being outspoken on social media.

In early November, she was scolded by strangers for declaring she was “kid free and happy.”

After Karina revealed her decision to remain childless, she was bombarded with backlash, while some women urged her to “please reconsider” motherhood.

“As someone who cannot have children, I am offended to hear that you wish to be childless. It’s a blessing,” wrote one.

Another said: “Women are here to procreate. Quit your opinions and just reproduce.”

One suggested: “Having children is a blessing. One day you will understand.”

While another added: “You’ll grow up someday.”

In a lengthy post, Karina clapped back her critics.

“Maybe you would all be better parents if you respected other people’s choices about their bodies and their lives,” she said.

“Childlessness by choice does not make your life any less meaningful than a couple who have decided to have children or those who wish to procreate.

“Not having kids is just as okay as choosing to not have kids.

“I love nothing more than to see happy parents who love their children and their choices in life. Just as I love and respect those who choose not to walk this path.

“And it honestly breaks my heart to see and hear from these people who are desperate to have children but can’t.

“But just because I might have the ability to be a parent doesn’t mean I have an obligation.”
