Auburn Tigers Hire Seattle Seahawks QB Coach Austin Davis As Offensive Coordinator

Auburn previously rented Seattle Seahawks Football Team quarterback coach Austin Davis as its new offensive coordinator, the school announced on Saturday.

Davis, who was the All-Conference USA quarterback at the Southern Miss, spent seven seasons playing in the NFL before becoming a coach in 2019.

The 32-year-old started as an assistant attacking coach for the Seahawks before being promoted to defender coach in 2020.

His hire at Auburn was accompanied by statements from coach Pete Carroll and the Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, among others.

“I think Austin will make an excellent offensive coordinator and potential head coach one day,” Wilson said in a statement. “He has a passion for the game, number one. Number two, he understands the game playing at the top of the National Football League. And third, he’s a great teacher. He’s a great teacher of the game. He keeps it simple in terms of relaxing the midfielder’s mind. He’s going to be a great coach at Auburn.”

Davis replaces former Auburn offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, who was fired at the end of the regular season.

The Tigers won 6-6 in coach Bryan Harsin’s first season on the Plains. They will play Houston at the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl on December 28.

Next season Auburn will probably be without their defender, Bo Nix, who entered the transfer portal after three seasons as a starter.

In a statement, Harsin said Davis has a passion for football coaching and teaching.

“He’s spent the last 10 years as a player or coach in the NFL, bringing that experience from the highest level into our attacking and midfield rooms,” Harsin said. “He’s learned and is one of the best in the business and has been on the upswing since joining the coaching ranks.
