Attack on Karawara mall: Pregnant mother Diane Miller dies after incident in Perth

A pregnant mother and her unborn baby have died just days after being hit in the head at a shopping center in south Perth.

Diane Miller, 30, was hit in the head by a piece of concrete when a scuffle broke out in the car park of a Karawara shopping center off Manning Road on Tuesday night.

Miller’s brother confirmed the devastating news Thursday night after the family said their goodbyes.

“Everyone is destroyed,” Malcolm Clifton told NITV from the hospital.

“We just lost our world … the baby died too.”

Miller was five months pregnant and also has an infant son named Lloyd.

The incident happened as a fight broke out and a 17-year-old man allegedly threw a concrete object at the car, which went through the open passenger window and hit Miller in the head.

The impact caused her to suffer cardiac arrest. She was taken to the hospital and placed in the intensive care unit.

A 17-year-old Kensington man was later charged with aggravated assault and breach of bail.

Miller’s heartbroken family told 7NEWS earlier in the week that they were “devastated” when she visited them in hospital.

“He’s going to grow up without his mother now,” Clifto said.

“We are devastated and we want justice. You don’t wish that on anyone.”

Police described the incident as “senseless” and “unprovoked”.

Police have claimed there was an argument between a group of teenagers and Miller’s partner, who was driving the car.

“As far as we know, the woman was a passenger in a car that was stopped in the car park,” said Inspector Brett Baddock of the Cannington District Office.

“Her partner then became involved in the scuffle… The parties were not acquainted.

“It’s just senseless violence by a bunch of teenagers.

“As far as we know, it’s unprovoked. I think they went looking for trouble and found it.”

The investigation is ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident or has a dashcam or mobile video of the car park during this time is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online via www.crimestopperswa.com.au .
