Atomic Heart developer Mundfish reportedly beat and abused employees

In a revealing message published on the ResetEra forums, user Messofanego has shed some light on the inhumane and unethical working conditions developer Mundfish was subjected to while developing their game called Atomic Heart. The report, based on a contribution from Balancy’s CTO Andrey Apanasik, noted that “there were a lot of milestones and dates, but they were all overly optimistic,” referring to the game’s development process, which often promised unrealistic goals and premature dates.

According to the additional statements referenced in the forum post, the timing issues encountered during Atomic Heart’s development were mainly caused by investors wanting to see a build of the product every three months. Although the builds were shown to be successful, they often called for rework rather than letting the developers work on the base.

This pressure, which the development team was often subjected to, was also exacerbated by the constant and unnecessary work reviews that upper management conducted when a certain date was reached. These “performance reviews” would then be followed by mass layoffs and a subsequent wave of new hires. The report also noted that “sometimes people would be fired in a day to give their piece of iron to new employees.”

According to the statements made, Mundfish employees were also paid unfairly, even though many of the employees worked more than eight hours a day. This fact was further confirmed by an image included in the post showing a message from upper management stating that they were “changing pay for weekend work from 1.5x to 1x”.

Though Atomic Heart is slated for release in early 2023, it seems the constant overhauls, atrocious working conditions, and lack of a clear development roadmap will make this a less than ideal release for those at Mundfish. Atomic Heart developer Mundfish reportedly beat and abused employees
