Astros respond to Yankees by dealing with Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros have struck a deal as Christian Vazquez joins the AL West.
The Sox were in clear sell mode as they entered the trading deadline. And since Vazquez was on an expiring contract, going forward made sense.
Vazquez didn’t seem bothered either, who mentioned over the weekend that he wouldn’t be surprised if he was transferred.
well what do you know It happened.
Christian Vazquez trade details: Astros and Red Sox

received Astros
C, Christian Vázquez

Vazquez goes to Houston, where he takes on (at least part of the time) catcher Martin Maldonado, who hits well below the Mendoza line.
As much as Houston’s pitchers like Maldonado, he’s no playoff-caliber backstop. Vazquez, meanwhile, cut .282/.327/.432 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs in Boston.
The timing of this game was fun with Vazquez starting for the Red Sox as they faced the Astros in Houston.
The Red Sox drafted Vazquez in 2008, but he didn’t make his debut for the team until 2014. He missed the 2015 season due to surgery by Tommy John and then worked his way up to regular status by 2017. In 2018, he helped Boston win the World Series.
Full trading details have yet to be announced. We’ll have more on this story as it becomes available.
