A woman received the minimum sentence for killing a Tennessee police officer in a drunk accident on a wrong-way freeway.

Although the defense of Ashley KroeseThe 24-year-old gave 90 letters of support to loved ones on her behalf goal Legieza30, expressed heartbreak and showed no signs of forgiving her, according to the statement WTVF.

“It sickens me how people always survive this type of bloodbath, leaving the victims’ parents, spouses, siblings, other family members and friends emotionally imprisoned for the rest of their lives,” the victim’s father said Scott Legieza called. “In an attempt to find some form of inner peace, I was asked if I will ever forgive you. My answer then, now and forever will not always be. I will never forgive you either.”

The jury convicted Kroese last month of vehicular homicide by poisoning, vehicular homicide – 0.08 percent blood alcohol content or greater, vehicular homicide by reckless conduct and reckless grievous bodily harm resulting in death. Prosecutors said she was driving on the wrong side of the road on June 18, 2020 and crashed head first into Brentwood Police Officer Destin Legieza’s squad car. A blood alcohol level of 0.166 percent was found.

Prosecutors recommended 10 years in prison, but the defense prevailed with an 8-year sentence. Kroese reportedly has to serve 30 percent of her sentence — or 2.4 years in prison — before she’s eligible for parole. In addition, her driver’s license must be revoked for five years.

“It was a struggle to realize, understand and accept that someone lost their life that night because I never thought I could physically harm anyone,” Kroese said in a statement to the court. “I accept the jury’s decision and I sincerely hope that the Legieza family can find some kind of peace in this verdict.”

Destin’s friends and family have attacked her in her victim statements. The officer’s widow Ashley Legieza expressed anger that Kroese was being taken to court for having to relive her husband’s death in “slow motion.”

“Ashley, I don’t think you meant to kill anyone that day, but you go ahead with the process when you know you acted on purpose,” she said. “You should have just taken responsibility for your actions. Instead, you let me relive his death in slow motion during the trial. I had to listen to every detail, see every picture, watch every video and I couldn’t even grieve in private because everything makes the news.”

“Finding a new normal has been extremely difficult and you have purposely made it harder to prolong. You wasted everyone’s time, including your own, and you should be ashamed,” added Legieza.

Kroese’s aunt Michael Peterson claimed that this incident would mark Ashley forever.

“It’s her life too, and she won’t be able to rebuild the way you think,” says Kroese’s aunt Michael Peterson sad. “She’s not going to be as shiny as she was before and doesn’t think for a second that she’s going to forget that for the rest of her life.
