Ash Barty ends the year as WTA No. 1 for the third time in a row

NS. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Wimbledon Champion Ash Barty finished #1 in the WTA singles rankings for the third consecutive season, while Katerina Siniakova topped the doubles chart for the second time.

Barty, 25 years old from Australia, participated Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert are the only women to lead the year-end tennis rankings three times in a row.

This week is Barty’s 95th straight time topping the WTA and 102nd overall.

Barty’s title at the All England Club in July was her second at a Grand Slam. She also won the French Open 2019 and shortly thereafter took the No. 1 spot for the first time in June of that year.

Siniakova will claim the title Wednesday at the WTA End of Season Finals in Guadalajara, Mexico, alongside her doubles partner Barbora Krejcikova. Siniakova, 25, from the Czech Republic, ended 2018 as co-No. 1 in doubles with Krejcikova.

Together they won the French Open and a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, part of Siniakova’s five mixed doubles titles in 2021.

Barty also collected five titles, going 42-8. She last competed at the US Open in September and announced in October she’s done her duty for the year and won’t make it to the WTA Finals.
