The League Cup has entered the quarter-finals and it will begin when Arsenal take on Sunderland in League 1. It has been a season of ups and downs for Arsenal and they are currently flourishing with three consecutive wins to their name. Sunderland, meanwhile, is on fire with only one defeat in the last nine matches. The winner here is going to the semi-finals.

Here’s the plot, how you can watch the match, and more:

How to watch and odds

  • Time: 2:45 p.m. ET
  • Location: Emirates Stadium – London, England
  • TELEVISION: None | Direct: ESPN+

Plot

Arsenal: The Gunners’ young guns are firing all the flasks. Gabriel Martinelli has had three goals in his last three games, joining Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard as the possible centerpiece of an exciting young Arsenal squad. While it is likely that many of Arsenal’s first players will be rotated for a League 1 tie, manager Mikel Arteta should be careful not to be too casual as a disappointment here will drive momentum. Construction of the North London team stalled.

Sunderland: After years of collapse of the English football pyramid, is this the season when things are finally starting to turn around for the former Premier League side? In addition to reaching the quarter-finals here, they are currently 3rd in the League 1 table and are set to battle for promotion back to the Championship with only Rotherham and Wigan ranked above. In attack, they have the presence of Ross Stewart, whose 11 goals account for more than a quarter of Sunderland’s 39 goals. No one else has more than 11. They will probably need him to play at his best, because even against opponents in League 1, this is not a tough defensive unit, to say nothing of how they can handle even a rotated Arsenal team.

Guess

Arsenal were too weak against Sunderland, but the Black Cats got a consolation goal for their troubles. Pick: Arsenal 3, Sunderland 1
