Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be given an escape from life in exile at Arsenal after Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr made an offer for the former Gunners captain.
The Riyadh-based club submitted an offer to Arsenal on Tuesday that they would take Aubameyang on loan until the end of the season when they are obliged to sign him permanently for 9.1m. dollars (8 million euros). Technical director Edu and the club’s hierarchy have yet to respond to the bid, however, they are understood to be ready to part with the top earner after a tumultuous time off the pitch.
In fact, the fact that Aubameyang receives a salary of $340,000 a week from their books will allow Arsenal more flexibility in their pursuit of a striker this month. Dusan Vlahovic is their top target, although so far they have not been able to convince the Fiorentina striker to move into the mid-stage.
Aubameyang was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy last month for what the club saw as multiple disciplinary violations and he did not participate in any of the Gunners’ matches before marching to the Africa Cup of Nations. The striker was sent back to London by the Gabon national team after a CT scan showed “heart damage” following a course of COVID-19.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “He is in London and now he is going through some tests, because we haven’t had any clarity from the Gabon national team about it yet. why he’s back It’s clear that we have an obligation to make sure it’s medical that – and try to avoid any suggestion that’s the case because so far, everything we’ve done with the player historically, he’s never had an issue.
“Let’s go step by step and do the right tests and make sure the players are in the best possible condition, and then we’ll see what happens.”
The 32-year-old has struggled to find form since signing a new contract before the start of the 2020-21 season, scoring 22 goals in 44 appearances. He has struggled with multiple waves of COVID-19 as well as a case of malaria in May.
