Arkansas upsets Gonzaga, Villanova ends Michigan’s Cinderella run

The No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs failed to win the National Championship once again, when they lost 74-68 to the Arkansas Razorbacks No. 4.

The field of the March 2022 Madness Tournament is set and the Gonzaga Bulldogs are seen as the favorites to win the National Championship, something they’ve never done in the show’s history. They’ve only won one game from last year, so there’s certainly confidence that this could be the year.

It is not.

The top-seeded Bulldogs were beaten 74-68 by the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Sweet 16 to be eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.

JD Notae was the lead for the Razorbacks, scoring 21 points while shooting 9 to 29 from the field. Jaylin Williams scored a brace by scoring 15 points (5 for 12 from the field) and racking up 13 rebounds.

Drew Timme scored 25 points for Gonzaga (9 for 19 from the field), while Chet Holmgren was fouled late in the game, where he ended the night with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Villanova advances to Elite Eight, ends Michigan’s Cinderella lap

This isn’t the only game happening at 7:00 p.m. ET. Team #2 Villanova Wildcats finished the Cinderella competition run by Michigan werewolves #11, winning 63-55.

Jermaine Samuels scored the team’s highest 22 points by shooting 8 to 13 from the field. Samuels also scored seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

After beating Colorado State and Tennessee in the first two rounds, Michigan’s run has come to an end. Center Hunter Dickinson scored 15 points (6 for 16 from the field) and won 15 rebounds.

Madness March 2022 bracket update: Who will Arkansas and Villanova play next in the NCAA Tournament?

Arkansas will play the 2nd Duke in Elite Eight, after the Blues beat the Red Raiders 78-73. If they beat the Razorbacks, they will reach the Finals for the first time since 1995.

Villanova will face No. 5 Houston, who knocked out No. 1 Arizona with a 72-60 win. If Villanova defeats Houston in the Elite Eight, they will once again make it to the Finals. The last time they did so was in 2018 where they won the National Championship.
